Is Google A Semantic Engine?

Semantics are said to be ‘the next big thing’ in search engine technology. We technology bloggers routinely drum up articles about them and sell it to you, the adoring masses, as a product that will change your web experience forever. Problem is, we often forget to tell you exactly what semantics are, we just get so excited though…

Google Hasn’t Improved Search

I’m getting tired of the Google love. There is without doubt no company I’d rather work for in the world – but increasingly because I’d like to give them a kick up the arse. Whenever they release a new product, it does nothing to improve the existing search offering. Whenever they do something to change the existing search offering, it’s a minor layout move. Whenever there’s a new product in labs, it’s no longer outlandish, it doesn’t make me think and again; is no improvement or change to their core offering: SEARCH.

Agloco – Building An Advertising Empire?

Over the last few years I’ve been watching many startups go through the web process. Some of them whimper out quietly, some do moderately well and others become Digg. I like to think I have an eye for spotting some of the trends and Agloco is one company that seems to be progressing well enough. Currently it has reached crunchtime though and they’re promising the release of their software (and ultimately the money) at the end of March or early April.

Surrch To Be Called Allegro On The Desktop

You can check out the video of the new Allegro interface, currently in design, by watching the Youtube clip below. I’m searching for alternatives to the traditional listing of search results by trying to present something more intuitive and visual.

Recently there have been some major improvements to Allegro in terms of speed and usability. You can also now pull results directly from Google and display them in the Allegro results interface when online. Leaving the indexing functionality to hold those sites and topics that you’re specifically interested in. The database is also wholly transferrable, meaning you can swap and share – or even compile a master index of websites.

User/Submitter Under Auction

The money grubbers at User/Submitter are now attempting to auction off their site for bids in the region of $50,000. Current willing bidders : 0. There’s some useful information, and some apparent cv rewriting going on at the ebay auction page.

First Release of Anti Usersubmitter.com Application

I’m quite annoyed to think that usersubmitter.com can so easily manipulate Digg. So I decided to put together a little application that finds any stories being manipulated, lets you know with one click and then if you double click it the story will open in your browser so you can bury it sharpish.

Have fun Smile

I anticipate usersubmitter may try to counter this and I plan on releasing faster than they can update so check back often if your version stops working. Equally if you have any problems running then let me know.

.NET 2 framework is required to run this program, sorry to Linux fans I may put together a version using Mono if there’s enough demand but i hope to bury them more quickly than that Smile
